… there are just 7 months and 19 days until the Iowa Caucuses on Monday, January 14, 2008. That presumes, however, that the Iowa Caucuses are not moved up even further.

For the state to maximize its influence on the 2008 presidential candidate selection process, it would like to distance itself on the calendar as far as possible from Florida’s January 29th primary and a record 20 states holding their primaries on February 5th.

As it stands now, the 2008 Iowa Caucuses are already being held earlier than in 2004 (January 19th), 2000 (January 24th), and 1996 (February 12th).

Oh – and the countdown to the general election? That would be 17 months and 9 days.
