1:40 p.m. Mike Huckabee has won the West Virginia caucus, collecting 18 delegates, after narrowly defeating Mitt Romney:
Huckabee = 567 (52%)
Romney = 521 (47%)
McCain = 12 (1%)
This is a big blow to the Romney campaign who was counting on several caucus victories today. Romney entered the West Virginia convention with the largest number of pledged delegates. After the first vote, Romney was ahead, but failed to receive a majority of the delegates:
Romney = 464 (41%)
Huckabee = 375 (33%)
McCain = 176 (16%)
Paul = 118 (10%)
The vast majority of McCain supporters lent their support to Huckabee after the first vote to deny Romney the victory on the second ballot.
1:50 p.m. West Virginia will send 30 delegates to the GOP National Convention in September, of which 18 were determined by today’s roll call vote.
