Smart Politics recently examined how the Republican Party is hoping to win back-to-back U.S. Senate elections in Florida and Montana for the first time in the direct election era this cycle following Marco Rubio’s win last November and Steve Daines’ 2014 victory in the Treasure State. The GOP also has a chance to win two straight elections in 2018 for the first time since the mid-20th Century in North Dakota (Milton Young in 1956, Wild Bill Langer in 1958), Wisconsin (Joe McCarthy in 1952, Alexander Wiley in 1956), and West Virginia (Hugh Shott in 1942, W. Chapman Revercomb in 1942).

    1. “…two ‘straight’ elections…” Were the W Virginia elections held in 2 separate dates in 1942?
    2. At this point, the Mountain state seems way more likely to start a ‘winning streak’ (for the Trumpistas) than WI or even ND – though a bit less likely than the Hoosier state or the Show Me state.
