5:41 p.m. Polls close at 7 p.m. CST for the Maryland primary. On the Democratic side, 70 of the state’s 99 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are tied to today’s primary. For the Republicans, 34 of Maryland’s 37 delegates to the Republican National Convention are tied to today’s primary.
6:42 p.m. Polls will not close in Maryland now until 8:30 p.m. CST.
8:30 p.m. NBC News, CNN, and Fox News project Barack Obama the winner of the Democratic Maryland primary—the 21st state he has carried so far, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
8:30 p.m. NBC News, CNN, and Fox News also project John McCain the winner of the GOP Maryland primary. McCain has now won 15 states, compared to 11 for Romney and 8 for Huckabee.
